The official ServSafe Food Protection Manager Exam has 90 questions — 80 scored questions and 10 unscored pilot questions used for research purposes only. A passing score is 70% or higher, which means answering at least 56 out of 80 scored questions correctly.

The official exam must be taken in person under the supervision of a registered ServSafe proctor — it cannot be self-proctored or taken at home. Boston Food Safety offers proctored exams at our Boston and Woburn offices.

About This ServSafe Practice Test

This free ServSafe practice test covers the key topics found on the official Food Protection Manager Certification Exam, including time and temperature control, personal hygiene, cross-contamination prevention, cleaning and sanitizing, foodborne illness, HACCP principles, and safe food handling procedures. All questions are based on the 2022 FDA Food Code.

The official ServSafe® exam has 90 multiple choice questions — 80 scored and 10 unscored pilot questions used for research purposes. You need to answer at least 56 out of 80 scored questions correctly (70% or higher) to pass and earn your Food Protection Manager Certification, which is valid for 5 years and accepted in all 50 states. Our ServSafe practice test uses the same multiple choice format to give you realistic exam preparation.

Pay extra attention to time and temperature control, personal hygiene, and cross-contamination — these three areas make up the largest portion of the real exam. Understanding the temperature danger zone (41°F–135°F), proper handwashing steps, and how to prevent cross-contact between allergens and ready-to-eat foods will give you the biggest score boost.
